How is the "horse shoe" step 2D file example created?
are there any requirements about how the 2D step file is created?
i.e. I created a simple "square" sketch in solidworks (not a solid) and converted to step.
But Elmer can not load it
Please advise
Thank you

Re: STEP file 2D question
Thank your reply
But what i am looking is to make my own step files
I just need to know for 2D how do you design them? just a surface with "zero" thickness?
I tried the above but Elmer does not seem to recognize it.
Thank you again

Re: STEP file 2D question
Yes it would be a planer surface, what tool are you using to create the surface?
Re: STEP file 2D question
I use solid works
so I am only define it as a "sketch"
may be this is the wrong way to implement it.
what tool would you suggest to try?

Re: STEP file 2D question
Sorry, it appears ElmerGUI will only open 3D model step file. The file in the horseshoe tutorial is a mesh file, it was created and meshed in gmsh. gmsh saved the file horsehoe.msh.
For 2D geometry ElmerGUI says to use another mesh generator, gmsh is a popular one. You can create geometry or import step files in gmsh, generate the mesh in gmsh, use the save mesh option.
you will get a .msh file that ElmerGUI will open.
