Checking if my geometry is correct

Post by lmehdizadegannam »

Hello,

I am getting some error running my calculations. I started thinking maybe there is something wrong with the geometry (cylinder) I have built with gmsh. Can anyone let me know if the attached geometry is correct? Or did I do something wrong?

Thanks so much.
Kindest regards,
Lida

The mesh is very coarse, which may or may not be a problem, depending on its use. It is shell elements only, and triangles, again depends on use. The cylinder is hallow, made up of three shell bodies and edge elements. Was this the intent?

Hi Kevin,

Thanks so much for your quick reply. I intended to increase the mesh size from the original mesh I had. You actually helped me before to open the original geometry I had ( see attached). So I intended to regenerate the same geometry I had, and implement bigger mesh on it to reduce the computational time. Can you guide me how I can have the same geometry and mesh it in a way that it makes sense?

Thanks so much,
Lida

That would depend on the analysis to be performed and the intent of the simulation. Which equations are to be solved? Can you post a sif file?

The equations being solved are: Linear elasticity and Heat equation. My main concern is the shape of two geometries I have. I feel the one I made with the more coarse mesh, is not the same as the original one and I do not know how to resolve this.

Thanks so much,

Ok I can provide an example, however is the cylinder intended to be hollow, and if so what is the shell thickness, or is it intended to be solid?

Thanks so much Kevin. I don't think the cylinder is intended to be hollow.

Solid cylinder fixed at base, applied heat source, radiating heat to surroundings. Thermal expansion calculated with stresses. Used both salome and gmesh.

Thanks so much Kevin. I really appreciate it! Can you also generate a cylinder (just the geometry) that has less than 60 nodes? I truly appreciate it. When I build my geometry, it seems all the edges are not united.

Thanks so much,

In which tool are you generating the mesh?
