Natural convection in front of an aluminium piece

Post by olivir »

Hello Elmer users,

First, excuse my English, I am a french user which is not very good in languages :)

I discovered Elmer totally incidentally (youtube video =O) some days ago. I have a formation in Physics so I was very happy to learn about the existence of this terrific software !

I begin and I try to modelize some air natural convection in front of an aluminium piece but I obtain no movement :(

Someone can help me ?

Hi,

I cannot help you directly, since I have never done fluidics with Elmer. But there is a tutorial "Transient flow and heat equations –
Rayleigh-Benard instability" where natural convection is used. There are also three natural convection examples in $ELMER_HOME\tests. By studying them you might find a solution to your problem.

So you try to reproduce the tutorial and it doesn't work?

As I said,

You can study those and try to run them.

If that doesn't advance you, I hope that someone else can help you. I can't, sorry.

.05 x 1 aluminum plate hot on the left side, .20 air on the right side, boundary wall on the right. Heat conducts through the plate heating the air causing a vertical air flow due to buoyancy, heat convection into the air. Initial condition 293K, Hot side 323K, 0 Velocity.
