Unable to start transient radiative heat transfer from steady state results.

Post by ender_wiggin »

I am trying to simulate the transient cooling of a tube from a steady state condition where the only heat transfer mode carrying energy away is radiation. I have already obtained the steady state results that I need, and I have followed the instructions to perform a restart to the best of my knowledge.

For the transient restart, the simulation manages to compute the view factors, but it immediately crashes after that with nothing but hexadecimal outputs. In the steady state I never managed to get "gray diffuse" working, but I do need it here because I do have a boundary that sees significant portions of itself (i.e. the interior of a tube).

Some extra details: I'm am trying to compute in parallel. I'm on Windows 10. I have installed the GUI+MPI binary that was compiled shortly before December 20, 2023. I have already successfully performed simulations with parallel processing.

The log and sif files are attached.
