Seeking Help: Modeling a Metallic Sphere in a Time-Varying Magnetic Field

Post by Tom_B »

Hello everyone,

I'm new to Elmer (and GMSH) and have been diving into the documentation and tutorials to get started. Currently, I'm working on a project where I want to simulate a metallic sphere within a magnetic field. Specifically, I'm looking to model a magnetic field with a constant magnitude (||B||) in the z-direction (B = ||B||e_z). As a next step, I'd like to explore a time-varying magnetic field (||B(t)|| = cst*cos(omega*t)).

My goal is to observe the formation of a dipole moment in the sphere when it is exposed to the magnetic field. I'm wondering if Elmer has the capability to simulate such scenarios? I would greatly appreciate any guidance on how to implement this in Elmer and verify the theoretical result.

Additionally, if any of you have worked on similar projects or know of any examples that I could follow or mimic to achieve my desired results, I would be grateful for your suggestions.

Thank you in advance for your help and insights!

Best regards,

Tom
