Developed a new friction test case. The normal loads and tangent loads, slipload, appear to be calculated correctly and the slip load is a function of the friction coefficient. However it appears these loads are not applied to the body, as there is no change in the displacement results even though the slipload varies with the friction coefficient.

Is there something that needs to get added to the sif to apply the contact loads to the body?

I added the calculix solution to the github repository
https://github.com/mrkearden/friction-in-elmer

calculix works as expected, meaning the response changes with changes in the coefficient of friction.

Also there is a good development in the calculix world with
https://github.com/calculix/cae

provides a gui interface to calculix, and working binary solver, and a converter to paraview

works very much like abaqus cae if you are familiar with it
