Hi
I need to model an orthotropic material for a heat conduction problem.
The material principal directions are not aligned with the model coordinate system in my problem.
The Linear Elasticity model allows rotation of the elasticity tensor, but the Heat Equation model does not have a similar menu item to define the material principal direction.
How should orthotropic materials in heat conduction with the material principal direction not coinciding with the model coordinate system be handled, when using Elmer?
thanks
gsw

Unfortunately such functionality is not available for the HeatSolver. Maybe you could calculate the rotations yourself and give the full 3x3 heat conductivity tensor. If the angle of rotation is chanching within the same material then the problem requires some coding.

HI Peter
I can do that. I apologize for my laziness in asking this question.
Can the conductivity tensor be defined as temperature dependent? The Elmer tensor examples I have found show the parameters as constants.
Thanks for your quick response and long dedication to Elmer!
