is there a correlation between the quantity of materials in an elmer project and its size with the solver convergence?
I made an elmer project with 1 equation, 16 bodies, 4 materials and 1 boundary condition with 240 boundaries. the gmsh *.msh-file had a size of about 57MB.
the solver showed no convergence up to 20 iteration steps.
by substiting the material 2 bodies by the material of other bodies to reduce the quantity of the materials from 4 to 3, the solver finished after 2 iteration steps with a good result. another project with a nearly equal mesh size of 37MB with 4 materials had also a convergence after 2 iterations steps.
is there a maximum size of an elmer project with 4 materials to be handled and be solved?
thanks a lot

Re: quantity of materials
Hi goetz,
Number of materials is not limited, at least not to any value that would practically be exceeded. I've used tens of materials and there has been no problems in convergence. Maybe the material parameter values differ affecting the nonlinearity of the system.
