GiD as a pre processor

Post by nikoscham »

I downloaded GID 10.0.3 and i followed these instructions from the ELMER homepage:

"Copy the folder elmer.gid in GiD's problem type folder \GiD\Problemtypes. The folder contains all necessary templates and binaries for GiD to run under linux- and windows platforms. "

The problem is that it doesn't work,
I opened Data toolbar -> Problem type -> but i can't see any elmer there!!

What should i do?! i have windows 7 64x

Moreover is there any way to export the mesh file from GID so i can open it with elmer?
I tried it but the elmer GUI doesn't open any exports files of GID. (it can open only the IGES files but it says that non 3D campatible or something like that, and it doesn's shows anything!)

Thank you for your help.

Hi I use GiD 9 all the time to produce meshes for Elmer but dont use the elmergui to make the .sif file.

have you put the elmer problem type in a subfolder of gid problemtypes as a .gid folder? e.g. c:\gid\problemtypes\elmer.gid

once you have applied the conditions line/surface/volume and defined your materials (bodies) and meshed, you need to use calculate to produce the 4 mesh files, mesh.nodes, mesh.elements etc

hope this helps
