Elastic Plate VTK-Files not visible in Paraview 4

Post by saxonfahrer »

Hello,
last week i tried to visualize a elastic plate model result (VTK) in the latest Paraview (4.0.1).
But unfortunatley Paraview cannot display the Deflection(.1-.3) anymore - the contour is depicted but the colour-code is only blue. If i go to "Bounds" in the "Information" register then the x and y bounds are correct and for z it is shown "0".
In Elmer Post the result file is displayed like expected.
Suprisingly the Filter "Plot over Line" still gives the correct results. So the vtk-file is not empty (also the size of ~4MB shows it is not empty).
I tried other models (like 2d linear elasticity) and they are fine.

Didn't anybody else have problems with Paraview in combination with the elastic plate models?
A year or so ago i used paraview (old version) and elmer (6.2) and there it worked.

Anybody an idea?

Hi

Have you tried with vtu output (XML based VTK format for unstructured meshes).

Sorry for the late response - i've been on holiday.

I tried vtu also but the same result. Paraview displays "nothing" (just blue surface) and shows a scale of 0 to 1.
But if i look into the data cells, then paraview states the correct range.
Please show attached picture.

I also tried other display modes (wireframe, volume,....) But always the same.
I also added the vtk file itself.

Maybe someone could test it.

I'm running out of ideas....

at least on my computer, this does not help.
There is no reaction when i'm pressing the "rescale" button. Also when pressing "edit", the dialog box shows "min: 0" and "max: 1" (which is not true)

Also if i'm using the "data analysis" tool "plot over line" the displayed curve is correct and the values also.
Only the main windows shows crap. All other vtk files (2d beam bending or so) are working fine and the rescaling /autoscaling is ok.
I don't understand why its not working with elastic plates.

Hi,

with "Rescale to data range", I see the different values of deflection 1, 2, 3, see attachment.

thats really strange.
I already check the vtk files by hand with notepad++.
But i didn't find a difference to a "linear elasticity"-model. And there it works.

And also at your side it works too.

But on my side: paraview color scale can not see the values.
I also tried to adapt the color scale my self with help of elmer post (to know the values). And then it shows the correct shape.
But as far as i'm hitting the "rescale to data range" button, it went blue again (and switching to 0 to 1 scale).

I posting this in elmer forum, because it only happens with "elastic plates" solver. Not with every model.
But apparently only on my machine

Hmmm...
It seems to me that the problem is in your ParaView, since for me (and Peter as I understand his post), ParaView visualizes the data (the vtu file).
Which version of ParaView do you use, which OS? Does it happen with the latest version (4.1)? I use 4.0.1 64-bit, Windoze 7.

Hi Matthias,
thanks for your response.

I also think it is in my paraview, because on your machine it works.

Paraview-Version: 4.0.1 64-bit
OS: Windows 7 64-bit
Elmer: 7.0

I assume something with the read-in procedure, but the strange thing is, that other vtu and vtk file created by other elmer modles are working (there the auto rescale is fine).
May be you could execute the attached elmer-project on your machine and upload the vtu or vtk file you are creating by yourself. Then i could try it also.

Thank you very much

Hi,

sorry, I don't have the time right now to start Elmer and run your simulation.
Since the files written by your Elmer visualize on my machine, I think it's ParaView.

Maybe you can ask for help on the ParaView list.
