Here's a small how-to for exporting Elmer mesh files from GiD on 32-bit Linux and Windows platforms:

• Unzip the package "elmer.gid.zip" in a temporary work directory
• Copy the directory "elmer.gid" into GiD's problem type folder /GiD/Problemtypes
• Have a look at the examples in "tutorial.pdf.zip"

On 64-bit platforms, you'll have to compile the *.f90 files into executables with a Fortran 90 compiler.
