How do I get from a .igs to a mesh file format for Elmer?

Hmmm...
I am not sure that I understand what you mean by "smaller duplicate of the object inside the model". The model consists of two bodies, one inside the other. They share a common face which is duplicated, and this is why meshing in gmsh fails. I am working on a workaround for this problem. For the model we are talking about, I am already able to generate a 3D mesh using my workaround. If Elmergrid would be able to mesh it directly, this would of course be much more elegant...

Hi

ElmerGUI has the rather severe limitation that it can only mesh one body. So I think that you may still need to resort to Gmsh.

Thank you for the clarification, Peter.
It's no problem to resort to gmsh as long as it can do the meshing correctly, also in the case of a multiple bodies model in STEP format. But that is exactly what I intend to achieve...
