how to create a beam and solve with Elmer

Post by seifer86 »

Hallo to everyone,
I'm new of Elmer, I've only used Ansys and really appreciate the existence of Open Source FEM software.
I need to know how to create a simple beam, to mesh it, to apply loads and constraints and solving.
I,ve installed on my computer Elmer, Gmsh, Netgen, FreeCAD.

Thank you

Thanks for the guide

but now I can't open .grd files, for example beam3d.grd as sample file.

What's the difference between ElmerGUI and ElmerGrid ?

Hi,

I know I have not installed Salomé, but I recommend it.
I start searching tools to simulate the behaviour of fibre reinforced self compacting concrete, and try quite a lot. As I am not an expert in FEM, I need something intuitive.
You can create a beam and mesh it with Salomé and then export it to .unv file.
I think ElmerGrid is the part of Elmer that can mesh different geometries, but if you do it with Salomé, just use this command in a terminal and will have a mesh that Elmer GUI can handle.

ElmerGrid 8 2 thenameofyourfile.unv -autoclean

Elmer GUI is now the front-end of the software. There you have to set all the parameters before running ElmerSolver.
