Hi all,
I am trying to simulate an optical wave guide, and got stuck on how to import a single or multiple STEP file(s), and assign different material (refractive index). There will be 3 different refractive indices, Si, SiN, and air.
Is there an instruction or example for this procedure? I am using Solidworks 2017 to make parts and an assembly and export them as STEP file(s).
Best regards,
Multiple bodies from STEP file

Re: Multiple bodies from STEP file
Hi
ElmerGUI has limited STEP functionality and it cannot handle multiple bodies in meshing.
All other parts of the workflow can do that but you should mesh with some other tool.

Hi,
you can use Salomé: import the STEP file in the geometry module, make a partition, switch to the meshing module and mesh it.
gmsh should also be able to do it thanks to the OpenCascade Kernel, but I don't know the exact steps to follow.
HTH,
