Field Solver

Post by theElmerUser »

Hello,
I am new to Elmer. I am using elmer for capacitor extraction to solve for fields in Integrated circuits. But I before I go there I am trying to run some test cases where in I am trying to find the capacitance between two conductor and I don't have a GUI in this process I am relying on grid files provided by elmer to define the geometry of interest and boundary conditions. My question is can it be done or GUI, though convenient, must be used in the process of geometry definition? Are there any resources that I can refer to in this regard.

Thank You

Hi,

you can consult the Elmer documentation in general (https://www.csc.fi/web/elmer/documentation), especially the Solver manual and the Models manual. The Tutorial manual on that page conains ElmerGUI tutorials, but there are also tutorials without ElmerGUI. The files can be found on the Documentation page, but the non-GUI tutorials manual is a bit hidden. It is here: http://www.nic.funet.fi/pub/sci/physics ... nonGUI.pdf. Most tutorials (GUI and non-GUI) take their geometries from grd files.
You can open a grd file directly in ElmerGUI, or use ElmerGrid to convert it to a mesh. So you have the chioce whether or not you use ElmerGUI.
