Unexpected result in heat conduction simulation

Post by Jacuna »

Hi everybody,

I have used Finite Element Simulations before but I am new to Elmer, so I tried to simulate a very simple heat conduction problem, it consists on a bar with rectangular cross section, a 10W heat source on one end, an isothermal BC on the other end and adiabatic BC on the longitudinal axis (I’ve uploaded the file I created). When I run the simulation the temperature everywhere is 25°C, and I don’t get any error message whatsoever. Could someone have a look at my model and check what could be missing??

Many thanks in advance!
Javier

Hi,

the heat flux is in W/m2, and your surface is 1 mm x 1.5 mm. So it seems that the tiny heat flux doesn't do anything measurable - we might touch at the precision of the calculation here. I have quickly run your case, dividing your 10 W by the surface, and I get 191 °C at the other end.

Thanks a lot Matthias, I knew it had to be a dumb error like that.
