Hello everyone,
As you might spot from the title, I am a absolute beginner in Elmer solver.
If anyone would be kind enough to answer this question, which for me is a breakthrough.
How to create a mesh file?
Thank you,
Jin
Creating a mesh file
Re: Creating a mesh file
Hi,
there are many possible ways to create a mesh file.
First you have to create a geometry. AFAIK, this cannot be done inside Elmer. You need some kind of CAD program.
Then for the mesh, you can use Elmergrid which has somehow limited capabilities - the ElmerGrid-manual will tell you more. There are quite a few meshing tools out there - e.g. gmsh, netgen, Salomé, gid. Some have basic CAD capabilities. Each one has its strengths and weaknesses -it is mostly a question of personal taste.
HTH,
Matthias

Hey Jin,
also see the documentations at http://www.csc.fi/english/pages/elmer/documentation
The ElmerGuiManual.pdf has some informations about importing meshes.
Chapter 6.2 of ElmerOverview.pdf lists some ideas for pre-processing.
The ElmerTutorials comes with some files where you can learn to import and mesh geometries.
Bye,
Uwe

I used FreeCAD and created a file end with '.fcstd'
Of course, there are still many steps before I can use the ElmerGUI.
What should I then do?
Thanks,
Jin

Hello jin,
please avoid asking similar questions in several topics.
You will maybe get more answers but this is not the better way to help the community!
I propose you a method with Gmsh in your first topic below:
And a second method using Freecad and then Gmsh:
