I need to model a cantilever arm clamped to a pipe, where the cantilever arm is perpendicular to the axis of the pipe. I will apply a side load on the arm and I would like to determine the tension required on the bolts of the clamp (and therefore ensure that they are properly specified) to prevent the clamp from rotating around the pipe. I have a friction model that predicts the localised shear force supported per unit of local normal pressure between pipe and clamp, but the situation will also depend on the distortion of the clamp with the bolt loads.
I would appreciate any suggestions on how to handle this.
