Image display inline

Post by mzenker »

This is to test if I can attach an image so that it is displayed in the post. Here it comes:

[img]result.png[/img]

Since the image is not displayed above, I did something wrong. But what?

You did not hover the mouse cursor above the "Img" button. That will show the following hint :

Code: Select all

Insert image: [img]http://image_url[/img]
This means you first have to store your image somewhere online (Image Shack, Flickr, Tinypic, Photobucket, Imgur, etc) and then paste the URL between the Img tags.

Hi,

thanks for replying.
I have seen that hint, but I think it must be possible to display an attached image without storing it somewhere else. See this post or that one, for example.

Re: Image display inline

This is another test to display images inline. I have downloaded an image which was displayed inline in this post and try to attach it here:
EyeConcentration.png
EyeConcentration.png (23.08 KiB) Viewed 18742 times
What happens if I submit now?

Edit 1: It works!

So it seems that it's a question of image size...

I retry with the image of the first post:
result.png
(43.17 KiB) Not downloaded yet
I submit again...

Edit 2: It doesn't work! This png was slightly bigger - BUT in the post cited above, there is another image which I download and attach here:
EyePressure.png
EyePressure.png (53.96 KiB) Viewed 18741 times
What will happen now?

Edit 3: It works again!
So now the mystery is: What is the difference between my result.png (exported from ParaView btw) and the two others? It cannot be the size, since EyePressure.png is bigger than result.png.

Can someone shed a light on this...?

[Solved] Image display inline

Post by annier »

Hi Matthias,
I have come to similar situations many times.
I also used to ponder about this.
After i reduced the pixels size of the image named "reult.png" provided at the beginning of this post, to the final pixels size of 600 pixels*362 pixels, it could appear as follow. This would cause the file size to increase by few KiB i.e. its final size is 51.55 kiB.
So, we can enable the figures to appear as pixture by reducing the pixels (which would add a little to its original size).

Hi Matthias,
the original image you have posted at the beginning and reposted below, has image size of 43.17 KiB whereas the pixels size of 1235 pixels*745 pixels; and in this pixel size, it needs some reloading time when clicked. reducing its pixels, can make it appear directly a picture as above.

Hi Anil,

thanks for the hint. I will try if it works for me. I have taken the original result.png, reduced the pixel size to 600x361, and upload it now.

EDIT: It works! :)

Thank you!

And here is the explanation: The image should not be larger than 1024x768 pixels. Case closed!
