To save the current options as your default preferences for all future Gmsh sessions, use the ‘File->Save Options As Default’ menu instead. Finally, you can also save the current options in an arbitrary file by choosing the ‘Gmsh options’ format in ‘File->Export’.
The step file posted doesn't mesh the volumes for the pipe, error messages are reported for the gemetry, this is why the pipe doesn't show in Elmer.

Salome meshes it just fine and it opens in Elmer

In gmsh I did, gemotry, entities, coherence (coherence merges coincident points)
saved as unv file, and elmer opened it
