Elmer and GMSH on MacOS

Post by lpedroza »

Hi,

I got some problems using .msh files from GMSH on Elmer, it doesn't work anyway.

I've created and done everything I could, but it didn't work.

Any hints?

Since I updated to the most recent GMSH it doesn't work for me either. Linux Mint installation. I assumed it was because GMSH started using a new mesh format. I work around it by going to GMSH parameters and change mesh.format=2 which saves the mesh as a universal file. Attached is a msh file that doesn't import to GUI for me.

Hi,

I see the same behaviour. Loading the file in gmsh, export, gmsh MSH, version 2.0 ASCII produces a file ElmerGUI can read.

@Elmer team: are there plans to implement a parser for the new gmsh format in ElmerGrid / ElmerGUI?

Go to GMSH help. current options and workspace, search for mesh.format, change it to a value of 2, goto file save mesh, GMSH will then save it as a *.unv file that ElmerGUI ro ElmerGrid can read.

Well, I did it, but now Elmer quits unexpectedly every time I open the .unv file

I have occasionally had that issue, but ElmerGrid has worked. Open a terminal window and change to the directory where the unv file is.

type ElmerGrid, hit enter to get help info.

Convert unv to Elmer mesh is

ElmerGrid 8 2 mymesh.unv

I have never understood why ElmerGUI doesn't use ElmerGrid directly or at least a common codebase...
