Maxwell Stress

Post by Naorgk »

Hi everyone,

I'm working on a 3D simulation of a Magnetic reluctance motor and would like to calculate the Maxwell stress tensor.
When I activate the Calculate Maxwell stress check box I get the error 'Unknown specifier' when I try to solve it, without it the simulation runs fine.
what am I doing wrong here?

Thanks in advance!

You have to edit the .sif file. Look for the appropriate solver section and the line "Calculate Maxwell Stress = True". You have to set it to "Calculate Maxwell Stress = Logical True" manually. As far as I have learned, there is some keyword missing either in the GUI.

Hi,

you can also add the keyword to SOLVER.KEYWORDS which resides in the share\elmersolver\lib directory in your Elmer installation (at least for my 7.0.1 under Windoze). That way, Elmer knows the keyword and you can continue to work with the GUI if you wish. If you edit the .sif file manually, it will be overwritten an next project save.

HTH,

Matthias
