Shell Solver Ring Stiffened Pressure Vessel

Post by kevinarden »

Trying to do a ring stiffened pressure vessel with shell solver. The rings and shell appear to not be connected in Elmer, but in Salome there are no coincident nodes found. Any ideas?

Hi,

I don't quite understand what your problem is.
If you want two bodies connected, the nodes on the interface have to be the same for both bodies. Is that the case?

Yes that is the case, at least when I go into salome and merge coincident nodes salome says there are none.

Hmmm...
If you inspect the interface more closely, do you see that the meshes for both adjacent bodies share nodes?

I see my problem now. The rings fall on the center of shell elements, hence no coincident nodes are found, but it is not a shared boundary. Displaying it in hidden line makes it look like there is an element edge there.

Did you make a partition in Salomé before meshing (see also http://www.elmerfem.org/elmerwiki/index ... e_to_Elmer)? This normally helps to prevent that kind of problem.

I sort of did the opposite, I built it in sections, but then i fused the shell section together to make on shell body. Fusing took the partitions out. I just left it in sections, meshed each one and did a compound mesh. Worked out.

OK, yet another approach... ;)
The essential is that your problem seems to be solved.
