Evaluate pressure loss exhaust system

Post by jureekelder2 »

Dear all,

I am using Elmer to model the pressure loss due to the presence of a perforated plate. The system consists of a vertical plate with holes after which the air is sucked out vertically.

I have some questions:
- Now I am using the SST k-omega turbulence model (better results than k-epsilon), is this model accurate enough for this purpose?
- In reality we want to achieve an exhaust air flow of about 7 m/s. The inlet is ambient air. What are the appropriate boundary conditions? I read that if atmospheric pressure is wanted than the BC Pressure = 0 can be applied?
- Is my mesh dense enough at the holes? If I understand correctly, if the mesh is dense enough the Noslip Wall BC = True option can be applied, in stead of using the Wall Law.
- What is the best procedure to evaluate the pressure loss?

This is the velocity field I obtain:

Do these results make any sense?
What would be your improvements?

In the end I want to make different geometries (change hole diameter, chamfer holes, plate porosity) and see which has the lowest pressure losss.

Thanks in advance,
