fluid + magnetic + electric

Post by felucho »

Hello: This is my first contact with ELMER. I need to solve a problem of a liquid metal inside a stainless tube with a magnetic field (along x-axis) perpendicular to the tube axis (y-axis) and an electric potential applied perpendicular (z-axis) to both, magnetic field and tube axis.
Is there any similar problem solved that I could use as an example? Which solvers should I use? Electrostatic + MgDyn?
or Navier-Stokes + electrostatic?
The magnetic field is uniform and constant to first order.

Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

Hi felucho,
- you have found the appropriate software . Elmer is very strong in electromagnetic solver and magneto-hydrodynamics (MHD) solving.

- Regarding your interesting question, some experts in this field may answer you in details. In general, you need to use
Elmer as standalone software
1. Flow solver and Magnetodynamics solver

or,
Elmer and OpenFoam Couple
