2D model with out-of-plane forcing

Post by einatlev »

Hello
I am modeling flow in an "infinite" pipe, and would like to solve only a two-dimensional model, yet have the body force be parallel to the pipe's direction. Till now, I've been solving the full 3D model, but it seems like a waste, since there are no changes along the pipe. Any way to do this in Elmer?
All the best,
Einat

Hi Einat

To my understanding this should reduce to a Poisson type of equation for the cross section. This cannot be achived with the generic N-S equation. One could perhaps make a tailored fluid model for this particular problem starting from some other Poisson type of equation. If turbulence is needed there will of course be further complications.

Hi Peter
You are correct. This is a purely laminar flow, now turbulence. Any suggestions?
Thanks!
