Wrong keyboard encoder

Post by Gary R »

Hi all,
I just installed the latest VertlualBox with Ubuntu20 and a pre-incuded ElmerFEM package. My host is Debian Buster and Im running a 4 core AMD CPU. The installation was fairly easy and no problems were encountered. Except that the encoding of the keyboard is slightly off. Öö and Ää are not part of my alphabet. It seems that the letter part of the board works fine but the punctuation part is all messed up. I suspect that I have a Finnish keyboard instead of a US English one. I cant find how to fix this. Could someone help. Sorry about the bad punctuation but I cant fine the proper keys.

Thanks rback. The instructions were slightly wrong for my setup but lead me to the right place. The easy way to do the changes are:
Rt Click on desk top.
Select Settings
Scroll down to Regions & Languages
Click on Languages, Formats and + to set everything.
There is an apply system wide button in there someplace that will save you from having to reboot.

Thanks again for the help. Hope this helps someone else.
