examples using Bossak or Newmark method for help

Post by pinkie » 08 Apr 2018, 09:52

Hi all,

I would simulate second order motion equations for structural dynamics by using time stepping schemes (e.g. Bossak or Newmark method). But I don't find such examples or guide in ElmerDocumentation.zip. So, could some numerical examples for structural dynamics in Elmer be shared ? Thanks.

Hi

Unfortunately the code is a little fuzzy when it comes to defining the bossak scheme. Actually for 2nd order PDEs with time it is the only supported scheme and is always turned in by default for those equation. The integration strategy only has an effect for 1st order PDEs where there are a few alternatives.

But you're right in your observation that there is no proper case for this. The tutorial cases offer a very small number of cases. For more cases filtering the consistency tests may often be a better starting point.
