Hi, I wish to find out if Elmer platform has been used for simulation of liquid metal flow in molds? I am looking for numerical simulators (open source of-course ) to help me understand flow of liquid metal in castings/ molds.
All help much appreciated.

Re: Elmer for Simulation of liquid metal flow in molds
Hi Abishek
This obviously needs some Eulerian method for the fluid treatment. The only method in Elmer is the levelset and this is not perhaps the best when there is fluid/void. It is better suited for two different kinds of fluids, for example. To my understanding the speed at which these molds are being filled may be so high that it is imperative that any methods also work in difficult conditions. So even though levelset could be applicable I would be vorried about the robustness.

And what about gravity casting? where the driving force is only the gravity? i'm really interested in doing this in order to simulate metal casting.
Thanks in advance,
