Re: Material heating with phase change
Hi Peter, The inherent problem is that the melting heat results basicly to a delta peak in the heat capacity that must still be somehow integrated accurately enough. Therefore some smearing is advicable. Even then the temperal version may 'jump over' melting temperature with too long timesteps. The ...

Re: Material heating with phase change
Hi Peter ("petroo"), thank you for the answer - but my problem is different. I want to multiply the second column of a table (matrix) by a scalar. The MATC statement I have tried would work in Scilab (and MATLAB also I guess). My problem is: I need to use the enthalpy. From the tables I ha...

Re: Material heating with phase change
Hi Peter, thank you for the hint, I had defined the Enthalpy in J/kg as it is found in the tables. Two questions: 1. Is there an elegant way to multiply a table column by a constant (or variable)? I have tried naively: Material 2 Name = "Testmat_linear" Enthalpy = Variable Temperature;Real...

Material heating with phase change
Hi, I want to simulate the heating of a material containing water, taking into account the evaporation of the water at 100 °C. I thought I could use the Phase Change feature of the Heat Solver. So I set up a test case and run it with and without the phase change set to "temporal". When I d...

Problems when opening old projects with ElmerGUI
Hi, when opening an old project with ElmerGUI (which happens from time to time), I regularly have two problems: 1. The solver-dependent settings are screwed up when the number and/or selection of solvers in the bin/edf directory has changed since the project was saved the last time. As far as I unde...

Re: Volumetric absorption of light?
Hi Peter, you are right, the radiance package is intended for generation of photorealistic view, so the rays are traced backwards from the irradiated surface to the light source in order to save computation time. However, using the standalone raytracing module of radiance (called "rtrace")...

Re: Volumetric absorption of light?
Hi Elmer team, just as a hint: Years ago, I have used the raytracing tool radiance (http://radsite.lbl.gov/radiance/) and found it very reliable and efficient. It is Open Source. I don't know how far you are in your work, but in case you still need expertise in that field, you could certainly contac...

Meshing STEP files with double boundaries
Hi, I often use CAD-generated geometries (e.g. from Solidworks), which are exported to STEP format. To calculate the mesh I used gmsh. But gmsh has the problem that for adjacent bodies having each their own outer surface, the mesh nodes did not match at the interface, so not heat or current can flow...

Re: ElmerSolver does not start - libelmersolver.dll not found
Hi again,
after fresh install and reboot, the problem is gone for the moment. I had this effect already with the last Elmer version. Is this a known behaviour? Is there anything I can do except reinstall, reboot and hope?
Thank you,
Matthias

ElmerSolver does not start - libelmersolver.dll not found
Hi, I have installed version "Elmer-svn4757-2010-10-28" (with integrated freetype support) on Windoze XP. The problem is that ElmerSolver does not start (ElmerGUI and ElmerPost are working OK). I get the error message "libelmersolver.dll not found". The file is there, it resides ...
