Troubles navigating in Elmer to find body ID
I'm having trouble in Elmer navigating the image to find body numbers. When I had a 3D assembly of 4-5 parts of similar size it was easy. My new project has 18 parts and the relative sizes very from very small to large. When I show body #'s the characters all overlap and I can't discern the #'s for ...

Re: separate physical bodies defined as a single body
I think I found a solution to my problem. What I had done was to create a CAD drawing that had the same feature repeated several times in different locations. Rather than generate separate CAD files and import them individually I had instead imported the one file with multiple bodies. In Salome they...

separate physical bodies defined as a single body
I built a CAD model with 18 separate bodies but for ease of generating the FEM model I defined 3 separate physical bodies as, call it body_1. Now in Elmer I want to set a body force of 1W thermal in each of the 3 physical bodies. Can I do this? Do I need to enter 3W as the body force for body_1? Alo...

thermal boundary layer resistance
Is it possible to implement a thermal boundary layer (temperature discontinuity) in Elmer? I'm modeling a laser diode using a multi-body mesh but the body materials are using the bulk thermal properties. I think to get realistic results I need to include the thermal boundary resistance at each surfa...

Re: lost input when loading project
The loss occurs when I re-load the project without re-starting the GUI. 1. Edit project in GUI 2. create & save *.sif 3. save project 4. reload project ..... oops!! I've started using the command line solver and just use the GUI to load the mesh to identify boundaries & nodes. Thanks, Brian

lost input when loading project
Sorry for the trivial problem but I am having trouble sporadically losing by project inputs in Elmer GUI. I load a mesh and setup my model then generate and save a sif file. I then also save to a project. When I exit Elmer and come back later I load the project to get started. When I do this sometim...

Re: meshing for heat gap
I haven't had a response on this post :( To simulate a heat gap or barrier between two bodies is there any feature built into ElmerGui for this or do I need to modify my CAD model to add another layer between surfaces? I saw some reference to a "heat gap" parameter but could not find any i...

thermal transient not set up correct?
I ran a simple two body thermal transient that seems to work as expected. I then applied this to a more complicated 4 body problem and it is not behaving properly. The data results are the same for all 200 time iterations. My time step is 0.02E-9 and the number of iterations is 200. The results for ...

meshing for heat gap
I use Salome for generating a multi-body mesh for thermal analysis. I'd like to add a heat gap between some surfaces. Is this something that can be done in ElmerGui or do I need to regenerate the mesh in Salome? What changes would I need to make in the mesh in Salome?
Thanks,
Brian

Re: Paraview data range
Thank you peter! That was it...
Under the Equation->Result Output tab I needed to select Active but also Edit Solver Settings and click on 'After Simulation'.

Brian
