Ambiguity in 2D plane stress linear elasticity.

I use elmer for simulating 2D geometries. With a 2D domain upon calling the 'Linear Elasticity' solver, by default the z-displacements are given as 0. This happens even when "Plane stress = True" flag is used, whence the results are in a conflict (z-displacement = 0 and z-stresses are also...

Multi-Body Simulations in Elasticity

I have a need to perform a geometric non-linear simulation of a multi-body structure. Geometry is 2-dimensional as follows : 3 concentric circles with, body 1 -> the annular region between larger circles and body 2 -> the innermost (smallest) circle - solid object without holes. Material is specifie...

Re: Difference between poisson ratio and mesh poisson ratio

I am using Elmer for Elasticity (linear and nonlinear) problems. I'm unaware of the "Mesh solver" and don't understand why the mesh should be given a different poisson ration than material...
Any explanations or references would be of great help. Thanks in advance.

Re: linear elastic: force on a surface which should not tilt

In this case, as well as a general clarification with ELMER, Is it not a good idea to fix the rotation of the top face..?

Is it possible to prescribe rotation in ELMER...? If yes how...?

Re: Elmer mesh from gmsh

Hi Thanks mzenker for your response. When I try File->Open with a .msh file in Elmer GUI, it crashes. Gmsh part : File->Save Mesh generates 2 files - untitled.geo and untitled.msh . Upon opening (File->Open) untitled.msh in gmsh window it loads the mesh without the geometry. Is this .msh file OK ? O...

Re: Elmer mesh from gmsh

Sorry I'm a primitive user. I have a .msh file (from gmsh). How can I convert this to Elmer-solvable mesh file in windows. It is preferred to do this only with gmsh and ELMER, without trying out anymore new software (like the ones mentioned above). @mzenker : File->open in ELMER GUI is not loading t...

Re: 3d beam interaction with fluid

Hi I am running simple elasticity problem (to compare linear and nonlinear solutions). While using the nonlinear elasticity solver, I had the same issue : ERROR:: IterSolve: Failed convergence tolerances. ERROR:: ComputeChange: Norm of solution appears to be NaN The output is still generated, but is...

Re: gmsh to Elmer

Hi I'm using Gmsh and Elmer both in GUI, in windows. How should I convert gmsh file to elmer mesh i.e., how to execute "Elmergrid 14 2 mymesh.msh -autoclean" in windows? And if it's possible, may I know the use of different GMSH save options (V1 or V2 , ASCII formats, etc.) in ELMER? Thanks.

Re: Creating a mesh file for Elmer

Dear chris_DE

The 1st tutorial link you had :
http://amcg.ese.ic.ac.uk/index.php?titl ... h_tutorial
doesn't seem to work (page not loading).
Do you possibly have any help with this?

By the way, I recently started using gmsh + Elmer combo. Need this link to get handy with gmsh.

Thanks.

Re: Elmerpost input file does not exist

Hi

I Had the exact same problem. The solution suggested above (by raback) has helped me. Thanks.
