Re: Incompatibilities with Ubuntu 9.10 - was: Gmsh problems
Hello Peter, The Ubuntu elmer package is based on the one in Debian, so if you have trouble with it, please consider filing a bug in the Debian bug tracking system http://bugs.debian.org/ . Because I use Ubuntu, I generally update the Opennovation repository for Ubuntu (mentioned above) when I build...

Re: constant vs linear triangle elements for BEM
Mark, once the variations are reasonably well resolved, the error in the discretization should go as grid spacing h (i.e. 1/N) for constant and h^2 (i.e. 1/N^2) for linear elements. So as you increase N, the N linear elements become much more accurate than the N/3 constant elements. There's no gener...

Re: Source code on sf.net/projects/elmerfem
My first Debian package for Elmer used version 5.4.1, and all of my files are in http://lyre.mit.edu/~powell/elmer/ . For example http://lyre.mit.edu/~powell/elmer/elmerfem_5.4.1.orig.tar.gz is the upstream tarball, and http://lyre.mit.edu/~powell/elmer/elmerfem_5.4.1.dfsg.orig.tar.gz is the tarball...

Re: Multiple convection fields
Hi, actually i think the HeatSolver looks the convection flag from the Equation section, and convection velocities first from Material, and if not Found there then from the Equation section. I guess, when ElmerGUI was in made the Equation section was added, but to keep backward compatibility the Ma...

Re: Multiple convection fields
Thanks Juha. Note that heatequation has the same problem: constant convection velocity is supposed to be in the Material section (according to the ElmerSolver manual and source code), but ElmerGUI puts it in the Equation section. Changing the heatequation.xml file to put it in the Material section c...

Sorry, I left out one patch fragment needed for this to work, which is the second part of the attached.

Re: ElmerGui exits with Error on loading .unv Mesh-Files
The version presently in Ubuntu Karmic is SVN revision 4214, which is about 6 months old. You can get a newer version (4298) from the Opennovation backport mirror at http://www.opennovation.org/ubuntu .

Re: ElmerGui can open a 3d model but cannot generate mesh
I've had the same experience. Posted my results under External Tools -> FreeCAD and ElmerGUI.
Does netgen have the capability to mesh two bodies with an interface between them? If so, it should be possible to get Elmer to do this properly...

Re: Inconsistent results
Hello, I don't see the Convection Velocity in your .sif file, and I think I've seen a similar problem, or rather, two problems. The first problem is: when you define Convection = Constant in the Equation -> Heat Equation panel, it lets you define the Convection Velocity components. However, it puts ...

FreeCAD and ElmerGUI
FreeCAD and Elmer would seem to be a match made in heaven: an open source feature-rich CAD program, with an open source feature-rich FEA program. But I have two problems. First, I can't get an exported IGES file to mesh. If I make a single cylinder in FreeCAD, export the attached iges file, and impo...
