Hi Peter,

Will do :)

thanks for clarifying.

Problems with coilSolver

Hi all, I'm trying to solve for the current in a 3D closed coil (see picture below) closed_loop_std_10_turns.jpg Unfortunately the solution that I obtain with coil solver is not plausible (see picture below, a volumetric view of current density magnitude) because in this case current is a solenoidal...

Re: problems with MGDynamicsCalc

Hi Peter,

indeed, commenting "Calculate Joule heating = True" removes the problem.

Thanks for your help!

problems with MGDynamicsCalc

Hi all, I'm having a problem MGDynamicsCalc solver, given a specific current injected in a simple 3D coil (1 turn surrounded by air) I'm trying to calculate its magnetic energy. The current solver seems to work (I have only checked the statCurrent solver output, btw is there a different way to check...

Re: magnetostatic with mesh morphing

Hi Alex,

You can, for example, split the zip file in two or more smaller files directly with winzip. Or decrease mesh density.

Re: Beginner in using Elmer

Hi Charlezyi, Another option to keep an eye on for 1D modeling and simulation is openmodelica https://www.openmodelica.org Here you get the bonus of 3D animation included in the simulation (some configuration required...) In your case animation might not be a decision maker since your projectile can...

Re: problem with mortar periodic BC

Hi Peter, to further avoid problems with mesh complexity I have prepared a very simple model yet representative of a real world system (KISS rule ;) ). Consider the system shown in the picture below (NB: clicking the picture will expand it, just found it, but maybe I'm the only one that didn't know ...

Re: problem with mortar periodic BC

Good morning Peter, " ...However, even after that there seems to be something beyond the mortar FEs making your system hard to converge... " - bad luck?!? :D About your comment of convergence without Mortar BC. If you mean using pure simmetry conditions instead of mortar than I can confirm...

Re: problem with mortar periodic BC

Hi Peter, About the minor tips, I have tried all of them but it didn't help. Though my questions reamin still open, I have tried Mortar BC Additive (True/False) but again no resuts. After that, I have prepared a new mesh that uses an unstructured mesh for the volume and a structured 2D mesh on Morta...

Re: problem with mortar periodic BC

Hi Peter, Glad to hear that you see 3D electromagnetics as a promising field ^^ By the way, I assume you are aware of the article "Electromagnetic transient finite element 3D modelling of electrical machines using open-source tools"? Ive found it in this post: http://www.elmerfem.org/forum...
