Re: Unite 2 meshes after import from gmsh
Hi Peter, thank you for this example. This seems to be a good trick for dealing with nonconformal meshes at interfaces. In the sif file there is a comment saying: This test "misuses" periodicity to make computations in a nonconforming mesh Note that this can work in parallel only if all th...

Re: Mesh, SIf file and Elmer Gui
Hi Peter, for 2), any way to be able to re-create an (almost) arbitrary sif file from within ElmerGUI would be good. I am confident that you will find the best way to realize this. ;) Only then would it be possible to really work with Elmer from within ElmerGUI (even for the more advanced user I wil...

Re: Unite 2 meshes after import from gmsh
Problem partly solved: using the SAME mesh width on both sides results in a slight jitter of the nodes when meshed with gmsh. So some nodes are shared, some are not. The -merge [half the mesh width] option in Elmergrid forces all nodes to be shared. Drawback: this works only if the mesh width is the...

Re: Unite 2 meshes after import from gmsh
Hi,
I have a similar problem: I want to import a 2D mesh made with gmsh where two adjacent surfaces have different borders with slightly different mesh widths. Is there a way to force the interface to share the nodes?
I attach a test case in case someone wants to have a look.
Thank you,
Matthias

Hi Peter,
I forgot to ask: is the Coordinate Scaling command implemented in ElmerGUI?
Thank you,
Matthias

Re: Mesh, SIf file and Elmer Gui
Hi Peter, I have some questions/suggestions concerning this topic: 1) Is it planned to implement import of sif-files in ElmerGUI in the foreseeable future? This would be a very useful feature sometimes. 2) Sometimes, the sif file generated by ElmerGUI needs to be edited by hand. But when I change so...

Re: Importing gdsii or dxf files into Elmer
If you work on Windows, you can use gmsh (http://www.geuz.org/gmsh) to import STEP, IGES or BREP files and mesh them. The result (.msh) can be imported by Elmer. Two hints: 1. Make sure that your length units are what you think they are. If they are mm, you have to scale your imported mesh according...

Re: stymied by units...
Perhaps you could glance at the step file and see if there is something (perhaps more subtle) that would result in effective-millimeters being passed to the mesher? STEP file syntax is a learning curve for me as well... Hi Will, (Just returned from holidays...) I just have opened your STEP file (wi...

Re: stymied by units...
Hi, ad 2) I think I had the same problem with at STEP file meshed with gmsh and imported into Elmer. You can verify that the units in the STEP file are really mm and then give elmergrid (which does the mesh import AFAIK) the parameter "-scale 0.001 0.001 0.001". It can be set in ElmerGUI: ...
