Re: Problem with transient heat transfer
Wanted to check units. They are correct. Problem appears that boundary condition 2 is defined twice, in this case Elmer takes the second occurrence, so you don't have the BC on the hole that is expected. Changing this apparent typo improves the results on the first two steps step1.png step2.png Yes...

Re: Problem with transient heat transfer
The dimensions of the block are
length=1m
width=0.4m
height=0.2m
hole_radius=0.08m
for reference, I attach the mesh.
case_mesh.tar.gz
Do you think this plays a significant role?

Re: Problem with transient heat transfer
Dear Kevin and Peter, Thank you very much for your reply, I appreciate the time :) . I agree with you that 1 second of heating is not a lot for large temperature evolution. The problems that I am solving have a ramp up phase (around 0.01s) from 0 W/m^2 to such heat flux profile, which then lasts for...

Problem with transient heat transfer
Hello, I am trying to solve a transient heat equation with space dependent heat flux. The case setup is shown in figure below. The top surface has changing heat flux as boundary condition. Hole surface has heat flux set to 0.1, and side/bottom surface are kept fixed at 110 °C. https://bscw.lecad.fs....

Question about latent heat
Hi Elmer users! I am trying to benchmark Elmer against a 3D Abaqus study. The case is solving transient heat equation with heat flux boundary condition, that is applied for three seconds and after that there is a cooling phase (this heat flux is set to 0) of 10 minutes. Then this cycle is repeated t...

Temperature dependent heat transfer coefficient
Hello! I noticed that one of the advantages of Elmer FEM with respect to other open source solvers is the possibility of defining temperature dependent heat transfer coefficients. I am not an expert on numerical methods, but would be interested to know how this is implemented in Elmer. Is there any ...

Re: Boundary Conditions in .vtu File
Thank you for the answer, Matthias. Yes, I am looking for initial state of my model. I am dealing with a steady-state model. What do you mean by switching off the heat source? I have no heat source present in my model. My idea was to define the "flux compute" procedure and set the "ex...

Boundary Conditions in .vtu File
Hello all! This might be a trivial question, but I haven't found anything in other threads. I am dealing with a heat transfer model. I am trying to map heat flux from an external surface to the surface of my Elmer model and then use this surface as a boundary condition. I did some sort of mapping wi...

Re: Elmer Accuracy of Heat Transfer Model
Hello Peter. Thanks for the reply.
I diminished the "Nonlinear System Relaxation Factor" from 1 to 0.5 as suggested in another threads and it works well now.

Elmer Accuracy of Heat Transfer Model
Hello all! This is a very general question, but still. I am trying to benchmark a simple 2D Heat transfer model in Elmer against a commercial FEM Solver. If I impose constant boundary conditions and material properties (temperature independent), the results are very accurate (below 1%). But if bound...
