2D horseshoe magnet solution

In the document ElmerTutorials.pdf, Tutorial 8 titled "Magnetostatics – Magnetic field resulting from a permanent magnet", I am unable to reproduce the solution shown in Figures 8.2 and 8.3. Could someone please provide the .sif that generates this solution? I have tried many combinations ...

EM wave scattering with the VectorHelmholtz module

I have been exploring the level of capability of electromagnetic wave propagation in Elmer. I successfully ran the tutorial example on pp. 80-84 of the Elmer Models Manual (http://www.nic.funet.fi/index/elmer/doc/ElmerModelsManual.pdf), so the basics are in place. Public domain Comsol documentation ...

Re: Elmer heat transfer solver difficulty

Peter,
Thank you...I used
ti=GetTime()
and it works!

Re: Elmer heat transfer solver difficulty

I am attaching an edited version of my .f90 UDF. The .sif that connects with it was attached a few posts ago on 20 April at 15:16. The names of the .dll in my .sif and this edited .f90 do not match, but they did in all of my own tests. In the .f90, I am attempting to pull in the values of nodal [x, ...

Re: Elmer heat transfer solver difficulty

I believe the error shown above in my transient run MUST involve the call to the UDF in the Body Force section of the .sif. When I used the SAME .sif with the UDF call commented out, but invoke the constant value of the Heat Source, the transient program runs to completion. I am suspecting the selec...

Re: Elmer heat transfer solver difficulty

After more investigation, I have been able to isolate a difficulty I was having with 3D steady-state heat conduction simulations using GMSH --> Elmer and finally get good results. Since my problem of interest has cylindrical symmetry about the z-axis, I originally tried building my geometry by combi...

Re: Elmer heat transfer solver difficulty

After a bit more experimentation, I finally did succeed in getting the heatstrip 2D model to run successfully. I post the successful .sif and temperature output images below. I have been unable to get either of the following two alternate Dirichlet boundary condition .sif commands to execute - I do ...

Re: Elmer heat transfer solver difficulty

In an effort to establish a successful path GMSH --> Elmer --> "good physics", I have continued simplifying my model. I have not been successful in reworking the simple 3D model I reported above. I examined my mesh to try to determine if it is non-conformal, and trying clean-up steps has n...

Re: Elmer heat transfer solver difficulty

Matthias and Peter, Thank you for the suggestions. The coordinate scaling to the nm level IS intentional. My Body Force heat load is chosen accordingly. [My understanding is that for heat transfer in Elmer, the Body Force in SI units should be in W/Kg (rather than the perhaps more conventional W/m^3...

Elmer heat transfer solver difficulty

While I CAN successfully run the tutorial simulation TemperatureFieldOfSolidObject, I have not yet been able to get my own simulations in Windows 10 to run successfully. I am using GMSH to successfully build and mesh 3D structures. I can import the meshes into Elmer and build .sif files, both with t...
