Re: Multiple Solver Instances in GUI & sif Synchronization

Hi, I will not respond to the last post of Matthias in detail, because then a flame war would break out on this thread, and that would definitely not serve anybody’s interests. I have reported in this thread that the feature File>Definitions… Append one of the xml files from the directory /usr/share...

Re: Multiple Solver Instances in GUI & sif Synchronization

Hi Matthias, Thanks for responding and “accepting the challenge”; at least you show some attention and good will (unlike the developers...). Unfortunately, this good will is not sufficient to meet the challenge, and your triumphant announcement: “Conclusion: Zoltan's sif file can be generated by Elm...

Re: Multiple Solver Instances in GUI & sif Synchronization

Hi Matthias, As far as I understand the purpose of the “Elmer Definitions File Editor”, which produces an xml file (that should be as good as manually written in a text editor) is to enable users to add solver tabs and features to the GUI that are available in ElmerSolver, but not in ElmerGUI by def...

Multiple Solver Instances in GUI & sif Synchronization

Hi, It is a neat idea to allow users to add solver tabs (that don't exist by default) to the GUI using custom tailored xml files (or via File>Definitions… menu items). This feature could potentially eliminate the need for manual sif file modifications, but in its present form it still can't do it. T...

Re: Acoustics - Large-amplitude Wave Motion in Air

Hi, Found the cause of wrong results; the “Specific Heat” parameter was the culprit, not the “Bulk Viscosity”. The specific heat capacity is usually given in tables as kJ/(kg*K), but the sif file requires pure SI units in J/(kg*K). Therefore instead of Specific Heat = Real 0.718 we should write Spec...

Re: Acoustics - Large-amplitude Wave Motion in Air

Hi Matthias, Thanks for the link. Unfortunately it does not cure the problem. The most reasonable average value for the bulk viscosity at low frequencies is between 1e-3 and 1e-2. Let's see the results when using Bulk Viscosity = Real 5.0e-3. The geometry is a 2D wave guide 1m long, 0.1m high, fille...

Re: Acoustics - Large-amplitude Wave Motion in Air

Hi Matthias, I suppose that, given your expertise in acoustics, you are sure of the bulk viscosity values you use. But I am surprised nevertheless that it varies by a factor of ~1000 when humidity goes from 0 to 50%... I am not that very sure about the accuracy of these values either, because I have...

Re: Acoustics - Large-amplitude Wave Motion in Air

Hi, Thanks for your opinions. Peter's input was close to what I was expecting from him, but Matthias wrote an outright commercial. Matthias, you might indeed not be part of the Elmer development team, but you obviously have a very strong interest in the spotless reputation of Elmer (which is confirm...
