Re: Solving solid mechanics problems with material plasticity
Ok, the stress-strain curve is known. From the solver's point of view, I think the solution should be obtained with some iterations using the Newton-Raphson method starting from an initial guess as occurs in electromagnetic problems with nonlinear ferromagnetic materials. I'm not talking about Elmer...

Re: Solving solid mechanics problems with material plasticity
Hi, thanks for your answer. Good to know that a piecewise curve can be used. Actually, what I would like to know is if, in 2d-plane stress, the relation between stresses and strains is still the equation below with only the exception that E is not constant but depends on strain values. [sigma] = E(s...

Re: Solving solid mechanics problems with material plasticity
Hi, I'm very interested in this topic. In particular, my case study is a rotating plane disc of steel subjected to its centrifugal force only. Which is the mathematical formulation behind the bi-linear material solver? I know how the elastic solver works and its formulation. However, I don't know ho...

Re: StressSolver non-linear material
Hi, Even though this is an old topic, it is very interesting for me. I would like to perform some structural analysis on 2d geometries (e.g. hollow disk) with nonlinear material law (stress-strain curve). Do you know if it is possible to run such an analysis with Elmer? If yes, could you suggest to ...

Re: Comparison between ELMER and FEMM
Thank you for your feedback.
FEMM uses only first order elements.
I noted that the accuracy of the torque waveform strongly depends on the mesh quality within the air-gap.
I will follow your suggestion in future analyses.
Best Regards
Cristian

Re: Comparison between ELMER and FEMM
Thank you Peter for your interest in my issue and for your advice. I tried your code and the solver is way faster. However, as you already observed, there are warning messages as Requesting time from non-existing timer: PeriodicProjector and Tvals too small I look forward to hearing more information...

Comparison between ELMER and FEMM
Hi all, I've been a FEMM user for a long time. I'm trying to implement transient simulations for a simple reluctance motor with salient rotor, to understand how Elmer works. FEMM does not allow transient simulations, but I study the rotor motion with a series of magnetostatic simulations. The FEMM f...

Re: electric circuits with ELMER
Thank you Takala,
Now I've got what I need. I will try to test other more complex circuits.

electric circuits with ELMER
Hi all, I'm trying to run a transient simulation with a simple C-core model (all the scripts are attached). I obtained good results with the series connection of the 2 FEM components. Now, I want to realize the parallel connection between the 2 FEM components. I tried to write the circuit code but t...
