3D 2-phase flow simulation (gas/liquid)

Hi, been a while since I've been on here or involved with any CFD. My company is wanting me to try to find an open-source package that can simulate 2 or even 3-phase fluid flow. I've done simple single-phase flow simulations using Code_Saturne before and am pretty familiar with it, but I've been wan...

Re: SketchUp - Salome Meshing Work-Flow

Very nice. I am surprised however that you are satisfied with SketchUp, as it models everything as polygons (i.e. circular objects are approximations), or at least it used to be that way. I frequently had problems with surfaces closing, etc.

Re: The install of Elmer

Ubuntu has version 6.1 available in the package manager, have you tried that?

Re: Melting Ice

I would observe the physical process and see what the approximate thickness is, if you can manage. If you are applying force on the copper block (either directly or by weight) in order to sink it into the ice, then the water layer will be much thinner on the bottom (in the path of motion) than the s...

Re: Melting Ice

Hi, Could you explain your setup a little more clearly? In your picture, are the temperatures you have indicated held constant, or is that what they start out at? When your experiment finishes, is the block of ice still ice? I'm going to assume that the true BCs here are the constant heat flux appli...

Re: Compiling Elmer with Intel Fortran

By the looks of the log file, the configure script is using gcc, not icc as it should be. -x tells gcc to turn off the specification of a language (http://gcc.gnu.org/onlinedocs/gcc/Overall-Options.html) and -x tells icc/ifort what processor extensions to use (http://www2.fkf.mpg.de/edv/docs/intel_c...

Re: What visualization software do you use?

I need to start using ParaView, but for now I mostly use SALOME when I can.

Recommended BLAS implementation(s)

The importance in choosing a BLAS implementation has come to my attention recently. Basically most CAE software relies on BLAS and LAPACK to solve problems, and so that choice directly governs how fast you can solve a problem. I also understand that this choice is really non-trivial, as the differen...

Re: Elmer validation/limitations

Thanks for your quick response Peter. It is good to know that Elmer is validated against other solutions, and also to know that it excels in FSI. FSI is probably the main reason I want to use Elmer; a generalized example of what I want to do is heated fluid flow through a pipe while the outside of t...
