I want to investgate the effects on a TO56 transistor can of press fitting into a Cu slug. I think this would be a type of swaging. Can anyone tell me if Elmer can be used to model a swaging process?
I'm interested in computing stress and strain on the TO56 package.
Thanks,
Brian

Re: advice needed on which solver to use
Thanks Peter,
I'll dig into the tutorial you suggested and also become more familiar with running the non-GUI solver,
Much appreciated,
Brian

Re: advice needed on which solver to use
:( I've had no feedback yet. I am modeling a semiconductor heat sink using Elmer GUI. Are there any examples showing how convection is set up? I see a convection tab in the Heat Solver that allows setting velocities. Does this apply to all bodies selected for that 1 equation? I also see the ability ...

advice needed on which solver to use
Hello All, I'm using ElmerGUI to solve a steady-state heat transfer problem of a semiconductor with a heat sink exposed to forced convective air cooling. I have been using the heat equation along with a diffusion defined for a boundary condition on all the heat sink surfaces. I'm setting a heat tran...

Control of mesh size?
I have a 20 body geometry that was meshed in Salome and exported to Elmer as a UNV file. The mesh size is 546,750 elements which brings Elmer to a crawl on a Windows 7 quad core. Is there any control option in Elmer to reduce the fineness of the meshing? Is that something that should be taken care o...

Re: cant get convection setup to work
My results might not be unexpected  I am using a heat transfer coefficient of 12 W/m^2-K. If I do a simple calculation of the applied 3W transferring through the small area defined I get ~8000K. Question, is the heat transfer coefficient with external temperature the correct setup to use for a...

cant get convection setup to work
Hi All, I am having difficulty getting thermal convection setup to run in the GUI. Currently my model has 18 bodies and 1 heat equation plus a boundary condition (Dirichlet) on one surface. This is working as expected with a 30C rise. I want to add a heat sink to the surface that now has the Dirichl...

Re: Paraview results different from ElmerPost?
SOLVED!! Thank you so much Peter for the educated guess.
I think what caused this was in the Model->Equation tab I had the Result Output tab set as active. The run log showed results getting saved prior to completion.
Thanks again,
Brian

Paraview results different from ElmerPost?
Hi, I'm thermal modeling a die on a substrate and Elmer post shows the hot spot is the heat source on the die and the substrate is 300K (boundary cond). However, in Paraview the substrate is hot at 300K and the die is a 0K ?? I'm attaching a dropbox link is here: https://www.dropbox.com/s/f1vmvobbt3...

Re: Troubles navigating in Elmer to find body ID
More info, Here is a dropbox link to a picture showing a thin diagonal strip of material I'm trying to identify the body # of, https://www.dropbox.com/s/dkzg3cym2xmdwuk/Screenshot%202016-06-10%2013.10.04.png?dl=0 You can see the body #'s overlap & obscure themselves. This feature is in the cente...
