Re: rod magnet

No one has more high hopes for ELMER than I do when it comes to magnetostatic calculations. I have tried almost every program that is out there going as far as Google translations of the ADVENTURE Japanese FEM documentation and jumping into C++ compiling of code that no longer works on the new stand...

Re: rod magnet

Since your problem is axisymmetric and actually 2D you may want to look at FEMM 4.2, For 2D problems FEMM 4.2 is a jewel both in its interface and its output accuracy and available data forms. There is a library of materials within the program which gives the magnetic properties of most of the gener...

Re: Continued Magnetostatics with WhitneyAV Solver

Peter, My smoothing test was a very simple one using readily available tools in an effort to see how effective a simple smoothing algorithm would be in transforming the raw WhitneyAV solver output Magnetic Flux Density vector. The WhitneyAV solver outputs a null AV potential when solving permanent m...

Continued Magnetostatics with WhitneyAV Solver

I have continued to test the WhitneyAV solver on a typical 3D permanent magnet sourced magnetostatic problem of interest. The solver gives generally correct values for the averaged field , but shows spiking anomalies that resist attempts to suppress them. Experiments with first order extruded triang...

Magnetics With the WhitneyAV Solver

Here is for some hopefully useful feedback for the programmers working on the WhitneyAV 3D magnetostatic solver. Attached are some graphics files that show the WhitneyAv solver at work on a very typical magnetostatic problem. The geometry and mesh are visible in the first jpeg files. The half millim...

Alternative To Paraview

After a dozen or so crashes and many unkind words while trying to work with Paraview I went looking for an alternative. Surprisingly there is one that I find significantly superior and much more stable on a Windows platform. The data visualization software is called VisIt and is freely available her...

Re: MagnetoDynamics.src Error Status Update

3DHorseShoeMagnetElmer.jpg Update and Feedback on a 3D Magnetostatics Horseshoe Example Here is the feedback and information that I promised to send regarding a full information set to run a 3D Horseshoe magnet problem. First I will list the issue that I found. 1. The Magnestodynamics.xml files bot...

Re: MagnetoDynamics.src Error Status

To make the results more complete, I need to add another program with a solver that supports 3D magnetostatics, the magneticFoam solver in OpenFOAM. It has the least documentation of all, leaving potential users to read the source code for hints.

Re: MagnetoDynamics.src Error Status

Peter, Thanks for the direction to a much later source. This should be all I need to get the latest version running. Once I do, I will post all the Elmer files necessary for the next guy to run a sample case of a permanent magnet 3D magnetostatic WhitneyAV problem. I find executable working examples...

Re: MagnetoDynamics.src Error Status

Thanks, I will give it a try. My concern for going to a Linux version of Elmer was the lack of a recent source code. The only source code I have found for Elmer is at http://www.nic.funet.fi/pub/sci/physics/elmer/src/. When I look into the source code for magnetodynamics, src I find 3130 lines of cod...
