Serge-Eti,
I can only speak for Blender 2.49b. The .stl which it exports is binary; it does not know how to
export ascii. Gmsh can read it though, and then output an ascii .stl which Elmer or Netgen can read.
regards,
Gary

Re: 3D mesh from point cloud
Depending on the complexity, I would probably try the following:
Put the xyz into .ply format and import into Blender. Then construct the
surface mesh manually. Then export as .stl. Then let Elmer or Netgen
mesh it.

Re: Installing in Ubuntu 11.10 - Oneiric Ocelot
Mike, I'm far from experienced in Linux, but if it helps, any: Search the forum for libvtk5.2 and you can see what I did. (Though I have a feeling your problem might be more difficult.) I understand that Ubuntu dumped Synaptic Package Manager in Oneiric. I like it. What I would recommend would be to...

Re: Conformal Mesh from Blender 2.6
Mike, This is what I just did (on XP): 1. Downloaded e2aps 1.4, unzipped in its own folder. 2. Unzipped your screw2_elmer.zip in its own folder. 3. Ran e2aps, selected " Elmer to: .msh (Gmsh v) ". 4. Loaded the file mesh.nodes from the screw2_elmer folder. 5. Converted. 6. Saved. 7. Opened...

Re: Conformal Mesh from Blender 2.6
Mike,
To me it looks like a Blender version thing. But that is not to say that e2aps will take you where you want to go.
Perhaps others have better suggestions.

Re: Conformal Mesh from Blender 2.6
If you haven't looked at e2aps (Sourceforge) you might give that a try.

Solved problem with libvtk5.2
Hi All, I have xubuntu 11.04, 64-bit, and my Elmer is at svn4897. I wanted to go to svn5272, the version Opennovation has. But I ran into this bug: http://groups.google.com/group/linux.debian.bugs.dist/browse_thread/thread/11aa97ab526c1443 It's the one about libvtk5.2 on 64-bit. I worked with synapt...
