Re: guidelines for creating IGES geometry

Mihai - there are lots of proprietary software packages that can generate and prepare meshes for CFD. On the other hand, you can go with the Open Source and do similar things. Here are couple Open Source packages that are available and come into my mind right now: To generate the mesh: FreeCAD, Blen...

Re: measuring tool

Matthias -

I found "Summary ..." tool AFTER I've posted the question.

Would be nice if Elmer would have ability to display Axes (not just the simple Compass) with Grid (like GMSH or other packages) to visualize the overall lengths and display units for clarity.

Thanks.

Re: Importing gdsii or dxf files into Elmer

Myself I'm using this path: 1. initial model (I use various applications to generate the BIM = building information modeling, since I'm an architect ...) 2. then save the .dxf out and import into Blender (if any issues, the .dxf can be converted very well with freeware tools like DraftSight availabl...

Elmer cannot run under a different user than administrator

Hello - I ran into this strange problem using Elmer 6.2 under Windows7 - I created another user on a machine (though with administrative rights) and when try to run a case, Elmer stops immediately ... logging in back as administrator, everything runs fine ... I opened Elmer GUI "as administrato...

ERROR:: CRS_IncompleteLU: Memory allocation error.

Hello - I'm trying Elmer on another aiflow simulation for a building interior. After I get into this issue: ERROR:: CRS_IncompleteLU: Memory allocation error. Running on Win 7 on a quad core machine with 6 gb of memory. I use the version: ELMER SOLVER (v 6.1) STARTED AT: 2011/10/11 12:09:43 MAIN: MA...

USING COMPRESSIBILITY MODELS RUN INTO NaN

Hello - whenever I try to change to compressible gas (air) the solver run into NaN. None of the compressibility models work, all of them run into NaN ... ERROR:: IterSolve: Failed convergence tolerances. In this case I try to use ELMER to simulate airflow patterns inside HVAC systems in buildings. S...

no velocity in HVAC duct branch

Hello Elemer gurus - in my spare time I keep trying out Elmer to compare it with other CFD tools. For educational purposes I analyze the flow into HVAC systems. This case is pretty simple an HVAC duct with one main branch and a small one. I use incompressible air with a Smagorinsky constant/coeffici...

Re: CAD software

Matthias - I might not have red your entire post so didn't know you are looking for that - if that is the problem, the answer might be quite simple: Blender has a tool to "remove doubles" - let's say you have two cubes that are coincidental (vertices of both cubes coincide), then select bo...

Re: ERROR:: IterSolve: Failed convergence tolerances

Peter - thanks for your suggestions. I'll try ILU1 and ILU2 with BiCGstabl. If won't converge I'll try to improve the mesh density. I'll post my results. Thanks for helping. best, Adrian Hi You might improve on the preconditioner (with the expense of memory) or try some other iterative solver. For e...

Re: CAD software

Matthias - your file imports well into FreeCAD - I do not use FreeCAD in a daily basis, but from my experience with it, it is very capable piece of software - though not complete yet - of course doesn't have all the tools that a proprietary package has - you might look also at HeeksCAD/HeeksCNC as a...
