Re: Elmer on a pc-cluster

Hello Pisolino, yes, we tested the possibility over here, too, some two years ago. The main objective was to use computers of the same bit size - coupling 32-bit systems with 64-bit systems did NOT work. We did not pursue this direction as for our problems there was not much sense in further domain ...

Re: How to bring into Elmer GUI several Bodies?

Hi Elgrip, fine that my pointer could help. The current Salome GUI differs from that in the article but it was not too hard to figure out. Thanks! Thanks for this remark, as I fetched the latest Salomé version just some days ago, but had not yet the time to check changes. Since I make a jump from 5....

Re: FYI: Report on Elmer in heat conductivity determination

Hi Peter, ... Maybe a little bit more real-world measuments than I'm used to ;-) They sometimes make things more complicated. Yes - this is certainly a drawback for us "colourful fluid dynamics" guys! Things are most fruitful if you don't have to bother about this ugly RL business a...

FYI: Report on Elmer in heat conductivity determination

Hello @all, I was not quite sure if this sub-forum is the right place to publish respective information. If not, forum maintainers please re-link this contribution! ;) Background: In the last 3 years (with a 1 year's pause) we performed a study on the possibility of determining heat conductance prop...

Re: What mesh generation software do you use?

Hello Peter, independent of what I like to create my meshes in myself, I would love to see explicitly documented paths for most of the other generators in your list: I guess most of us will eventually cooperate with other FEM simulation users that employ other softwares and are therefore oriented to...

Re: other sketch up plugin than Khamsin

Hello 'ndrini, Salomé is a real, practical alternative to define comparatively complicated meshes - at least for me. You definitively have to get used to the workflow, though, and will presumably need some time to get into the framework. Re-defining (sub-)geometries, if the should need additional ti...

Re: Basic questions about workflow, grids, viewing

Hello bbbeard, in addition to "Peter the Guru's" ;) remarks, let me add some smaller hints that I don't feel covered by the other Peters answer. Maybe they help. (3) I had a great deal of trouble selecting the surfaces to apply boundary conditions to. It seemed that whenever I clicked on a...

Re: Memory Requirement

... but i wanted to know if there was some other way to perhaps calculate or estimate the memory consumption. As memory prices are not so very high at the moment, I'd suggest to buy as much as will fit onto your mainboard, which should amount to 16 or 32 GB presently. On my FEM machine I hit the li...

Re: Units of measure?

This has been answered many times before. Elmer assumes you use a consistent set of units-IE if you input everything in SI units, your output will be in SI units. Yes, but what about the "almost SI units"? (See also my comment on the neighboring thread on the "material library extens...
